Copper Sleeves for DIY Busbars

High-quality Copper Sleeves for DIY assembly of your flat copper braids

Copper Sleeves for assembling your own flat copper braids

Make your own flexible connections

Only with the right sleeve can you guarantee a permanently secure, highly conductive and mechanically resilient connection. The quality of the connection elements is therefore the key to efficient DIY assembly.

SPS not only offers you proven, highly flexible, tinned copper flat copper braids by the meter, but also the matching sleeves that are perfectly matched to these tapes.

Thanks to their optimal fit, our sleeves are precisely matched to the dimensions of SPS flat copper braids. This guarantees maximum contact area and minimum contact resistance.

  • Reliability: The connection sleeves are manufactured from high-quality material and offer maximum safety and durability in industrial applications.

  • Full control: You can make the connections to the SPS flat copper braids yourself. From cutting the flat braid to crimping the sleeve, you have the entire process of self-assembly in your own hands.

  • Maximum flexibility: With the flat copper braids in any length and the corresponding sleeves, you receive a complete package that ensures your independence. Order the tinned copper flat braid by the metre and the required number of sleeves. This way, you avoid long delivery times for custom-made products and can assemble your flexible connectors quickly and cost-effectively in the required specification.

Technical details

Correct crimping of the sleeves onto the copper flat copper braids is crucial for the electrical conductivity and mechanical stability of the connection. Our sleeves are manufactured from tinned copper.

Processing

Below you will find the recommended procedure for creating a secure connection:

1. Preparing the material:

  • Cutting the flat fabric tape to length: Cut the flat fabric tape to the desired length. The cut must be clean and at a right angle in order to evenly cover all individual strands. Avoid crushing or fraying.
  • Stripping (not applicable): As these are uninsulated flat copper braids, stripping is not necessary. The strand is inserted directly into the sleeve.
  • Prepare the sleeve: Ensure that you have the correct sleeve (cross-section and shape) for your flat copper braid and that it is clean inside.

2. Inserting and positioning:

  • Inserting the flat fabric tape: Push the end of the flat strand completely into the PLC sleeve. It is essential that all individual strands are seated in the sleeve to the specified depth and do not protrude beyond it.
  • Selecting the tool: Only use professional crimping pliers or a hydraulic or electro-hydraulic press with the appropriate press inserts.

3. The pressing process (crimping):

  • Applying the press insert: Position the pressing tool exactly in the centre above the area of the sleeve that encloses the end of the flat copper braids.
  • Pressing (crimping): Press the crimping pliers or press together with full force until the pressing process is complete.
  • Successful connection: This deforms the sleeve so that the many individual strands of the fabric tape are cold-welded and pressed into a solid, homogeneous mass without air pockets. This is crucial in order to minimise contact resistance and prevent overheating.

4. Quality control:

  • Appearance: The crimp must be even and must not show any cracks or extreme deformations. A slight bulge of the sleeve at the crimp edge is normal.
  • Tensile test: Pull firmly on the connection to ensure that the flat copper braids cannot be pulled out of the sleeve. The mechanical strength must be very high.
  • Contact reliability: After pressing, make sure that no individual copper wires of the strand are protruding and that the connection is cleanly finished.
